When you get a bunch of women together who are in the business of putting out magazines and special issues centered around every holiday imaginable, you are bound to find a group of ladies who thrive on festivity!
I had heard tell of the lengths to which the CK Media office celebrated Halloween, but I really couldn't understand until I experienced it. Stace, our local Halloween expert (she carries a plastic pumpkin purse year-round!) had two ideas for our team costumes this year. I was delighted when she suggested cheerleaders - um, yeah - I can totally do that. But I was completely overruled and the second idea was it.
Yes, hippies. I don't have much of a bohemian vibe, but I channeled my inner Janis Joplin and headed to work with braids in my hair and monster hoop earrings. My colleagues blew me away - Kelly, with her mauve gypsy top and cool John Lennon glasses, Jennifer, with her crazy blond wig, Brandy, with the perfectly matching orange ribbon and groovy white bell bottoms, and Stace, who wore color (she wears black EVERY day - she said all of the color was making her a little itchy)! Stace even made her purple jacket and had tie dyed scarves for each of us to wear. While the Simple and Digital staffs (dressed as prison inmates) were pursuing violence and rough language, we passed out flowers and magic brownies and promoted peace. Groooovy, man.
And now we are on to Christmas! Even though we are working on the May/June issue of Paper Crafts, we decided to bring ourselves into real time as opposed to magazine time last Friday. We gathered in Jennifer's office (with special guest Catherine Schaerer who made us each a lovely picture), listened to Christmas music, and created Christmas tags for our Paper Crafts and Friends card group. It was fun to celebrate (a little early) before things get too crazy.
A far cry from last year at this time, to say the least. Have I mentioned lately that I love my job? ;)
And you really should check out the new buzz in the paper crafting biz - my friend Cath's trend watching mecca - The Moxie Fab World Blog!
Susan

Thanks for the plug, groovy Susan! I sure wish I could have been there for our Hippy Halloween, but I felt the flower-child love vibes all across the country!

For some reason I suddenly feel a need to say, "Slow down, you move too fast. Ya got to make the morning last . . ."
Aaarrrghhh, now I have Paul Simon trapped in my head!

Boo on not being a cheerleader! Although it looks like you all rocked the hippie look!
Story: a little friend of Q's told her she was going to be a hippie for halloween and Q later asked me what a hippie is. Hmmm, how do you explain that to a 5 year old? I didn't really go into the drugs and free love and liberation and such, I wasn't sure what was left! She went away with the answer 'hippies are people who have really long hair and don't bathe that often!'
