It recently occurred to me that I've never blogged about my new job! Before I get to that, though, I need to recognize some really great people who helped me through the transition.
When the door closed at CK, I wasn't exactly sure what was next for me. So to my lovely friends who came over to mourn with me and brought wine and goodies...thanks. To the sweetie who sent me the cotton candy I'd been craving...thanks. To the doll who dropped by during her lunch hour to see how I was doing...thanks. To the guy who endured my crazy text messages and mood swings, helped teach me perspective, and (accurately) predicted I'd have a new job in 3 weeks...thanks. To the thoughtful friends and relatives who sent cards of encouragement...thanks. To the women who wrote phenomenal letters of recommendation for me...thanks. And to my wonderful sister for braving the unknown with me and keeping me strong...thanks. (Did that just sound like I was accepting an Academy Award? haha...)
God is pretty darned amazing. He always takes care of me..and this job change was no exception. A recruiter saw my resume and contacted me about the job opening at Challenger School, and I was hired within a week. I'm a Writer/Editor in the corporate office, where I write and edit marketing copy, newsletters, curriculum material, documents, corporate communications, and the like. It's fast-paced and professional, and I am enjoying it very much.
I have the deepest respect for the education that Challenger School provides. With 20 campuses in 4 states and over 10,000 students currently enrolled, they definitely live up to their name. Students in 1st grade diagram sentences, 4th graders write research papers, and 8th graders study Macbeth. And having seen their methods in action, I'm a believer. The students are enthusiastic, happy, and self-reliant.
Founder Barbara B. Baker, who started the school in 1963 when she was dissatisfied with the curriculum she was given for teaching preschoolers, is a true dynamo, personally involved in every aspect of the company and committed to her philosophies about education and citizenship.
So if you were wondering what I'm doing with myself on a daily basis, now you know. With my education background and writing and editing expertise, it's a great fit! You can even picture me there in my colorful cubicle, busily knocking out projects and doing my part to continue the Challenger legacy.
