So, I guess you want to know who won? The two best performers on our quiz, with nine correct answers apiece, are (drumroll, please):

Kathy Kurowski and Amy Saleik! Please email us your addresses, so we can get the RAKs out to you!

We did find it amusing that people who have known us our entire lives weren't necessarily very good at identifying our rooms! But we still love them!

This has been greatly entertaining for me, and I hope you had some fun, too!

Either post your guesses here or email me by midnight tonight (Saturday) at bopels@aol.com with the whole list. Tomorrow, I'll be giving away that prize to the person/people who has accrued the most correct answers (and I'll reveal the answers and the winners then as well).

Additionally, I want to send out an SOS to all my Christian friends out there. A friend of our family, Casey Bauer, needs our prayers. Last Sunday (June 30) Casey (26 years old) was coming home from playing in a softball game.  They think he passed out and ran off the road into a ditch.  He is a diabetic and at the hospital they said his blood sugar was 32, which is dangerously low.  It should be between 75-150.  A passer-by saw the wreckage and called 911.  He was in pretty bad shape, and the doctors weren't originally very encouraging. There was talk of paralysis IF he recovered. Friends and family gathered in large numbers to wait and pray. On Monday evening, some of his ball team checked in at the hospital to show the family a shirt they had made to wear at their game -- they each had a number 2--Casey's number--on their sleeve, and they were going to leave a place open on the field for him. They also told his mother that as a group, they have something like 129 prayer outreaches going on the internet. The first few days were very touch-and-go...terrible scares and then stabilization. But the brain continued to swell dangerously, so Saturday they operated and took out the damaged part of the brain, drained a lot of the fluid and put in a tracheotomy and a feeding tube. They are decreasing the medication that has kept him in an almost coma-like state and are beginning to detect little movements. He is engaged to be married on September 6. Thank you for lifting Casey and his family up to our Lord.

See you tomorrow!

snippet snapshot quiz - part 1!

Well, well, well. Beth finally decided to get on it and BLOG! I sincerely apologize to all our dear blog readers. As you know, Susan and I take turns, and it's been my turn, but we've just been busy getting our lives together here in Utah. Plus, I always have so much to say that it involves a block of time that I don't seem to be able to find these days. But with a long holiday weekend, it's finally coming to pass--hurrah!

One month ago today we moved into this house. Three weeks ago our moving van arrived. And if I do say so, we've done a remarkable job getting all unpacked and settled in. Both of us are kind of relentless about making lists and running errands and assembling furniture and arranging drawers and getting it DONE so we can enjoy our surroundings.

We've been promising pictures, and the time has come! I'm actually going to commit to blogging EVERY DAY for an ENTIRE WEEK. Here's the deal: I'll post two photos every day, and your job is to identify the room in our house that is pictured in each photo. Either post your guesses here each day or email me by midnight Saturday (bopels@aol.com) with the whole list. Don't worry if you don't get into the game until several days in...you can begin guessing at any time! Next Sunday, I'll be giving away a prize (and I've got some good stuff!) to the person/people who accrue the most correct answers (and I'll reveal the answers and the winners then as well).

Soooo, here are your choices (answers may be used just once, more than once, or not at all):

A. Beth's bedroom

B. Susan's bedroom

C. Scrapbooking room

D. Beth's bathroom

E. Susan's bathroom

F. Laundry room

G. Stairway

H. Living room

I. Dining room

J. Kitchen

M. Garage

N. Downstairs bath

And here is the first pair of photos!

the next chapter

Last many of you knew, we were eagerly anticipating the arrival of the moving truck on Friday the 13th.  What a gorgeous day it was!  Seventy-six degrees and not a cloud in the sky to hamper the big day.  The 80 foot truck arrived about 8:45 and carefully manuevered into the parkling lot of the clubhouse.  We quickly gave Joe and his helper a run through of the place so that they could get to work.  We explained our color coded system that would help them as they unloaded and had our key posted prominently right inside the door.

Img_5710

Joe was quite a character, and I imagine that some of his ancestors lived under bridges at some point.  His phone manners weren't too proper.  The first time that he spoke to me I was whizzing down the mountain from Park City, and even though I didn't recogize the number, I thought I'd answer.  When I did, he barked at me, "This is Joe."  And I was thinking, Joe who?  So finally I asked.  And instead of telling me that he was with Atlas Moving Company he shouted, "This is Joe.  I've got your stuff!"   Needless to say, we were glad to see him finally arrive after about six discussions of how to get here, but we were even more happy to see him go, especially after all of his snide remarks about our crummy "pressboard" furniture that just falls apart.  Like he lives in a mansion! :)  But, hey, our "stuff" is here now, so I can't complain too much!

Img_5711

One of our concerns about moving to Utah was finding a church that we like as much as we liked Emmanuel.  Through the powers of the Internet, we were able to find Grace Lutheran in Sandy.  It is quite a drive, but we have found it to be a very nice place.  My grade school cheerleading coach and my high school algebra teacher (who are married to each other) attend Grace, so it was nice to find a couple of friendly faces in the crowd.  We were also able to meet the pastor and his wife as well as the choir director, and they all seem very lovely.  Though Grace doesn't have the historical building that Emmanuel did, we like what we see so far.

Church

Other than work (which we  SO enjoy!) and church and a quick get together with some of our colleagues on Friday night at Cath's house, it has been a week of unpacking.  My mom would tell you that I am relentless, and Beth would concur.  We have an incredibly liveable house only ten days after the truck arrived.  The kitchen and living room are in working order sans decor.  Our bedrooms are pretty well organized, though I have some boxes of books yet to tackle.  Our bathrooms are outfitted and in working order.  Granted, there are some few areas that need attention, like the pantry and a few drawers in the bathrooms, but seriously, things are getting pretty settled.  It has been fun being reunited with my "stuff."  Here is one box that made me giddy when I opened it!

Img_5714

That's all of my colored hangers, if you can't figure it out.  They look totally fantastic in my new closet!

The room that is most ready for action is the scrapbook room.  I'm going to make you wait for pictures because there are some final touches that we want to make, but this room is utterly spectacular!  Since we would for the first time have a space dedicated to actually scrapbook (as opposed to a place just to store everything), we wanted to make it easily accessible and incredibly cute all at once.  Earlier this week I gave Beth a homework assignment to write down the top ten things that she reaches for when creating, and I did the same.  Our lists were nearly identical, so we knew that we needed those things in convenient places.  We were also inspired by an article that Jessica Sprague wrote in the April issue of Creating Keepsakes about her scraproom organization.  Beth and I chatted with Jessica via e-mail on Thursday asking a few questions to get a broader scope of her method.  You see, Jessica organizes her embellishments by color.  What a breakthrough.  We have done it, and we can't WAIT to see how it works.  And this room has more going for it.  With the futon, it will be an ideal place for visitors to sleep, and there's a TV and the computer, too.  It's a little piece of heaven, and we are so excited to finish it completely!

Barb Hogan commented to our last post that she wanted to hear a little bit about our trip out west and the adventure that must have been!  I'd say it was a little like Thelma and Louise without the anger and the guns and Brad Pitt.

We left Fort Wayne on Monday, June 2nd, and waved goodbye to the Monroes who had so graciously given us a place to stay for our last few days in the Fort.   Here at Karen's blog there is a You Tube video of our cars actually pulling away.  Yes, two cars - Beth and I drove the entire way in two separate cars, but we love to drive and we have cell phones, so we actually kind of enjoyed it.  Karen had made a lunch for us and a little snack bag, so we were able to make good time.  As the last few miles of Indiana sped away beneath me, I pulled out my Mellencamp's greatest hits CD and listened to the pride of the Hoosier state.  Ironically, as I crossed the border into Illinois, his song Your LIfe is Now was playing.  I have to admit, I got a little teary-eyed.  You get a little attached after 13 years!  Monday night we arrived in Des Moines unscathed.

Tuesday morning our destination was Cheyenne, WY, and the terrain really began to change rapidly.  We made it to Cheyenne with no problems.  What a cute city!  Despite the fact that it is the capital, it seems really small - but hey, they had a Starbucks, so we were happy!

The next day, we began to see signs like this:

Img_5674

and we knew that the journey was about to come to an end, but our adventure had only begun!

Today, Beth was on KSL TV (SLC's NBC affiliate).  You can watch her segment here.  How fun is that?

turn the page

It's a brand new chapter!

Susan and I have now finished our fourth day at CKMedia, and we LOVE our jobs!  Everyone is incredibly helpful, kind, and welcoming.  It's also very interesting for us to be a part of the scrapbooking industry from another side of the hobby.  It has actually been very helpful to have been affiliated with the magazines as designers, as we understand some of the processes from having been on the other end of situations.  We feel especially blessed that we came into our positions already having met many of the team members and contributors through previous events, so there have been lots of hugs and reunions.

Img_5703

For the first couple of days we went through a lot of training, much of which seemed a bit overwhelming, but once we got opportunities to jump in and actually work on some articles, do some proofing and formatting, and send submission response letters, we really began to feel the groove.  We can't say enough about the great staffs at Creating Keepsakes and Paper Crafts.  I can't think of one person who isn't terrific!  They really care about the work they are doing and the audiences they serve.

Img_5699

A red letter day arrives tomorrow, as our moving van brings us our earthly treasures.  We've been bravely surviving with only what we brought in our cars and bought at Target and IKEA.  This is the first night we aren't putting together furniture!  (Susan is the relentless one in that department...I tend to get a little cranky having to do too much assembly-type work.  I like to shop and decorate!)  Anyway, we do have to give props to IKEA in particular for having inexpensive furniture that meets our needs. Fortunately the chain opened its new Draper location just a few months before we moved here!

And we are very excited about the baptisms of our nephews David and Jonathan!  They received a blessing at birth but went through an actual ceremony last weekend!

Jonnybap

Davidbap

We wish we could have celebrated with them, but we rejoice in this milestone and are thankful that we will be seeing them in just a few weeks, as they are coming back to the United States after several months in Istanbul for several summer events, including Mom and Dad's 50th wedding anniversary in early August. Can't express how we are looking forward to planting some kisses on those little faces!

Utah is insanely beautiful, with snow-capped purple mountain majesty surrounding the valley.  Just to our south is Utah Lake.  We are getting settled in our townhome, but we're eagerly anticipating opening up our boxes and arranging our furniture.  How lovely it will be to sit on a couch instead of the floor to watch TV in the evenings!

Img_5697

So, it's early in this new chapter, but so far everything seems to foreshadow an interesting and varied plot.  We sure hope you keep reading on to see what happens!
